A fallen tree on North Peachtree Road near Sandell Drive caused power outages in more than 100 households in the area during Tuesday’s torrential rain storm.

Homeowner Christopher Gair, whose yard contained the fallen tree, said the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. as rain pounded the area. The tree fell across Peachtree Road, blocking through traffic.

Georgia Power, in an alert posted around 9:35 p.m., said about 143 homes were affected by the outage running along North Peachtree from Jett Ferry to Tilly Mill Road. Power was restored about 1 a.m., Gair said.

On Wednesday morning, Freeman’s Tree Company, a contractor for the city, was on-site meeting with Gair to discuss the tree removal.

Other low-lying areas, like Old Spring House Lane near Dunwoody Trace, experienced flooding as the skies opened up around 6:45 p.m. A Rough Draft Reporter patrolled the area around 10:30 p.m. but the earlier-reported water had receded.

Other homeowners reported ditches along the rear of their properties were filled with fast-moving water runoff like they had never seen before.

Data on the United State Geological Survey’s website showed that rainfall in the Nancy Creek Stream near Peachford Road area totaled 2.65 inches over the past  24 hours.

As of 10:30 a.m. today, Georgia Power listed only one continuing power outage on Peachtree Dunwoody Road near Summerset Road affecting five homes, with no estimate on when it would be restored.
