Fulton County Schools (FCS) announced record-breaking achievements from the preliminary results of the 2024 AP Exams, with 10,888 students participating in the Advanced Placement program.
The students took a total of 22,731 exams across 39 different subjects, an FCS news release said.
Riverwood High School stands out for its 16.6 percent increase in pass rates and for administering 252 additional exams, according to the release.
Riverwood High Principal Kindra Smith told Rough Draft that the increase in the school’s AP exam participation and scores resulted from a tremendous group effort, most notably by teachers.
“They have been committed to student success by intentional summer planning, targeted recruitment, Saturday Bootcamps, and digging deep into our AP Instructional planning reports. I am tremendously proud of our teachers and students on their accomplishments,” she said.
Highlights of the 2024 AP Exam results include a record-high pass rate of 72.9 percent across all exams taken this spring, with double-digit gains in pass rates from 2023 in seven courses. Fulton County’s pass rates exceeded the national average in 31 of the 39 courses it offers, including all four mathematics courses. The Physics C: Mechanics exam had an 88.2 percent pass rate, more than 27 percent higher than the national average.

Seventeen of the district’s 18 high schools (excluding Independence High School and independent charter schools) increased the number of AP exams administered in 2024. Fourteen schools improved their pass rates, with Riverwood High School standing out.
FCS will conduct a detailed analysis to identify areas for further support and enhancement for the 2024-25 school year. A comprehensive report will be shared with the school board in early September. These preliminary results may be updated by Aug. 15, as additional scores are received.
