DeKalb County Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a fire early this morning in the restroom building at Brook Run Skate Park.
Officials later said preliminary investigations reveal that the fire might have been caused by an electrical or other system malfunction.
Bystanders reported large amounts of smoke pouring from the 2,500 square-foot building around 7 a.m. At least three fire units responded, along with Dunwoody Police personnel.
Dunwoody Police Sgt. Michael Cheek said the fire started in the facility’s restroom, but little is known beyond that. By 7:40 a.m. fire personnel had contained the scene, and workers could be seen carrying out bags of debris from the facility.
The 27,000 square-foot skate park is the largest of its kind in the metro Atlanta area, according to Dunwoody’s website. Listed hours are 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. on weekends.

Action and Adventure recently took over management of the park with the intent of offering after-school programs, with the intent of offering a limited concession menu, after-school programs and birthday parties, and on-site mentoring and instruction for new and developing bikers, skateboarders and skaters.
Rough Draft has contacted DeKalb County Fire Rescue for further comment and will update the story when more information is disclosed.
