A portion of Lake Forrest Drive near Chastain Park in Atlanta is closed indefinitely after a heavy rains from Hurricane Helene caused a large sinkhole to open up on the busy road.
Lake Forrest Drive is closed between Barbara Lane NW to Chastain Park NW (formerly West Wieuca Road), near the southern border of the city of Sandy Springs. The sinkhole caused sidewalks and a section of the road to collapse near the residence at 4504 Lake Forrest Drive.
“The recent hurricane brought heavy stormwater, intensifying the erosive impact on the roadway. The Atlanta Department of Water Management is currently assessing the pipe and road infrastructure to determine necessary repairs,” said spokesperson Schereé Rawles.
“Upon completion of the assessment, the work will begin,” Rawles said.

Lake Forrest Road is a busy thoroughfare that runs more than four miles between Powers Ferry Road in Buckhead and Mount Vernon Road in Sandy Springs.
