An ice skating rink will be a part of Brookhaven’s citywide winter celebrations for the first time this year.
Brookhaven Park will feature a synthetic ice skating rink that can hold up to 60 people at a time, although the city plans to cap it at 50 for “a more enjoyable experience.”
Forty-five minute ice skating sessions will be available for free starting on Dec. 7. Accompanying events in the park include visits with Santa Claus, holiday-themed crafts and movies, music, food trucks, and specialty events.
The announcement came from Brookhaven’s Public Works department at the Oct. 22 city council meeting.
City council members unanimously approved several items at the meeting.
- A rezoning application and concurrent variances for a property at 1286 Kendrick Road, a personal care home for seniors, was unanimously approved. Safe Haven plans to expand the number of residents by finishing the home’s basement.
- An ordinance to designate truck routes in Brookhaven city code was approved. The established routes are: Briarcliff Road, Buford Highway, Clairmont Road, Lavista Road, North Druid Hills Road, I-85, and Peachtree Road.
- The council approved an agreement with Gresham Smith for preparation of relocation packages on Peachtree Creek Greenway Phase II in the amount of $311,745.
The next Brookhaven City Council meeting is being held on Wednesday, Nov. 6. It was moved due to Election Day.
