The Backpack Project, a Georgia-based student-led nonprofit organization, has announced its seventh annual Homeless Heroes Day (HHD) event, scheduled for Fri., Nov. 15, in Atlanta. The event, which serves as the organization’s largest annual fundraiser, specifically focuses on supporting Atlanta’s veteran population experiencing homelessness.
This year’s initiative aims to distribute over 1,300 backpacks filled with essential supplies, marking a significant increase from last year’s goal of 900 bags. The backpacks will contain food, toiletries, and other necessities for individuals in need.
The event will bring together The Backpack Project’s corporate partners at the Westside Warehouse in Atlanta from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., where volunteers will pack the supplies and prepare them for distribution.
Since its founding in 2015, The Backpack Project has made a substantial impact across the Southeast, delivering more than 13,500 supply-filled backpacks to people in need. The organization’s reach extends beyond Atlanta to several other communities, including Athens, Augusta, Savannah, Durham, Charleston, and Los Angeles.
The Backpack Project, operating as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, supports unhoused communities through practical assistance and community engagement.
