Commercial real estate expert Sean Henry has been hired as senior vice president at Portman to lead its new multifamily property acquisition venture.

Henry has led transactions of over $6 billion and acquisitions surpassing $1.5 billion, with more than 20 years of commercial real estate experience.

“Sean is recognized throughout the industry for his ability to cultivate strong relationships, as well as his strategic mindset for structuring equity deals and navigating multifaceted negotiations,” said Harvey Wadsworth, managing director for Portman, in a news release.

“As the sector faces a 50-year high in apartment deliveries, we saw an opportunity to expand our residential platform to include acquiring properties that are poised for repositioning, especially as new supply dwindles next year”

Portman created this role for Henry, who will be focusing on identifying, evaluating, and executing multifamily investment opportunities that align with the company’s overall growth strategy.

The active targets are properties with over 200 apartment units in key markets across the Southeast, Texas, and Florida. These areas have apparently demonstrated long-term population, job, and income growth.

“Portman is one of the industry’s top players in multifamily development, and it has one of the best teams in place to effectively reposition underperforming properties and deliver outsized returns,” said Henry.

He previously served as chief investment officer for LMS Investment Management, a vertically integrated multifamily real estate firm and has held leadership roles for CrowdStreet, Capstone, Moran & Company, and Apartment Realty Advisors.
