The City of Dunwoody and its partners are looking for volunteers to serve in a variety of capacities around the city during the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 20.
According to a release from the city, Dunwoody Parks and Recreation has partnered with the Dunwoody-Atlanta Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. to recognize the national MLK Day holiday with volunteer service projects, a community food drive and blood drive.
“Every year, we look forward to building on the enthusiasm and success of the MLK Day of Service,” President Denise Daisy, president of Jack and Jill of America, said. “It’s important that we take inspiration from Dr. King and invest in the communities in which we live.”
Volunteer registration links for Dunwoody’s day of service can be found online. Projects include:
- 100 trees to be planted at Brook Run Park in coordination with Trees Atlanta;
- 5,000 daffodils to be planted at Brook Run Park in coordination with the Daffodil Project;
- Cleanup, raking, maintenance and rebuilding of raised beds at the Dunwoody Community Garden and Orchard;

- Blood donations through LifeSouth Bloodmobile, which will be located at Brook Run Park. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is recommended.
The community can drop off non-perishable food donations for Malachi’s Storehouse. Bins will be available from 9 a.m. to noon inside Brook Run Park next to the BloodMobile, in the parking lot at the intersection of DeKalb Drive and Georgia Way South.
“We are truly thankful for the volunteers who show up each year with a spirit of generosity,” Dunwoody Mayor Lynn Deutsch said. “From fighting hunger to caring for our environment, these projects are a powerful reminder that we can honor his legacy by uniting as friends and neighbors to serve our community.”
