Three Taverns Craft Brewery opens its third location, Ponce Brew Terminal, on April 4 at Signal House next to Ponce City Market.
The brewery sits on the ground floor of Signal House, the residential building on the edge of the Ponce City Market development, with a large patio facing the Eastside Beltline.
Ponce Brew Terminal will pour Three Taverns’ full lineup of beers, which includes classic lagers, multiple IPA styles like A Night on Ponce, sours, and stouts. The cocktail menu comes from Jess White, Director of Hospitality at Three Taverns. Local barbecue joint DAS BBQ handles food at the Signal House location.
The design
Design firm Gentle Works, led by Holden Spaht and Emily Wirt, pulled colors from the packaging of the brewery’s flagship beer, A Night on Ponce. They also took inspiration from the metallic sheen of brewing equipment and the history of the former rail corridor along the Beltline to create an interior that connects to Three Taverns as a brand and the neighborhood.
Further inspiration for the design came from Ponce City Market and the surrounding area. Long before the building was a Sears, Roebuck & Co. store and sported the Beltline, the area was home to Ponce de Leon Springs, a 19th-century destination with walking trails, a four-acre lake, picnic grounds, and an amusement park.
Brian Purcell, who started out as a home brewer, founded Three Taverns 13 years ago in Decatur. Purcell opened a second location in Reynoldstown called the Imaginarium in 2020, focusing on more experimental beers from the brewery.
Three Taverns Brew Terminal, 680 North Ave., Old Fourth Ward. Open Sunday, 12-8 pm.; Monday-Thursday, 12-10 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 12-11 p.m.
