Sandy Springs City Council at its Jan. 7 meeting approved the qualifying fees for its 2025 Municipal Elections scheduled on Nov. 4, following state law.

City Clerk Raquel Gonzalez said mayoral candidates will pay 3% of the current annual salary of $42,000 for the mayor, or $1,260. Candidates for the city council will pay 3% of the current annual salary of $26,000, which is $780.

The mayor and all six council seats will be up for election in the non-partisan election, with each seat having a four-year term of office.

Gonzalez said the qualifying period is established by state law as the third week in August. Qualifying will take place at Sandy Springs City Hall from Monday, Aug. 18, through Thursday, Aug. 21, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and Friday, Aug. 22, from 8:30 a.m. and noon.

State code requires the council to set and publish a qualifying fee for each municipal office to be filled in the upcoming election no later than Feb. 1 of the election year.

Two mayoral candidates have announced they will run for the mayor’s seat. Incumbent Mayor Rusty Paul announced his candidacy in September 2024 for his fourth – and what he said, would be his final – term in office. Councilmember Jody Reichel announced last week her candidacy for mayor.
