Decatur High School went on lockdown for a brief period during the morning on Tuesday, Jan. 14 after reported fights in the hallway, sparking false rumors of a gun inside the school.

In a letter to parents, Decatur High School principal Dr. Duane Sprull said, “This is a second update on the incident involving a fight in the hallway this morning. Reports of a weapon being found are false. We want to reiterate that the lockdown has been lifted, and the school has resumed normal operations.”

In an unrelated incident soon after the lockdown was lifted, City Schools of Decatur sent a message that a water main break that occurred overnight at Clairmont Road between Manville Road and Dresden Drive in Brookhaven was impacting two schools.

“We continue to monitor water pressure in our schools due to a water main break on Clairemont Road. At present, we are aware of low pressure at Beacon Hill Middle School and Fifth Avenue Upper Elementary School. However, schools are operating as normal. No estimated time for restoration has been communicated. Continue to check email for updates,” the district posted on social media.

An estimated restoration time was unavailable as of 12:15 p.m. Residents experiencing low or no water pressure should contact DeKalb Watershed at dekalbwaterops@dekalbcountyga.gov or 770-270-6243.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
