DeKalb Watershed Management announced Saturday night, Jan.18, that it had lifted the remaining boil water advisory for the county following last week’s major water main break on Clairmont Road.
The only area that was still under the advisory was along Clairmont Road between North Decatur Road and Scott Boulevard.
The Jan. 13 water main break on Clairmont Road near Dresden Drive affected 20,000+ homes and businesses for most of the week. While repairs were completed on Jan. 16, the larger boil water advisory continued
The break affected a large swath of north and central DeKalb, including the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta campus, Emory University campus, and parts of Decatur. City of Atlanta water customers were not affected by the break.
The break was caused by a ruptured 30-inch cast iron water pipe installed in 1941, according to county officials.
Just hours after crews finished repairing the water main on Clairmont, the City of Chamblee reported a new break.
In a social media post, the city said: “There is a water main break at 3320 Chamblee Dunwoody Rd. It has been reported to Dekalb County Watershed Management and a sidewalk is blocked off by Chamblee Public Works. Please drive with caution through this area.”
Neither Chamblee or DeKalb Watershed have released any updates on the latest break.
Meanwhile, a third water main break occurred Jan. 15 in DeKalb – this time on North Druid Hills Road. DeKalb Watershed completed repairs during overnight operations through Friday morning.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
