Georgia State University (GSU) has appointed Todd Rosenstiel as the new dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
Rosenstiel’s appointment follows a distinguished career as the dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Portland State, where he led initiatives that significantly advanced both student outcomes and academic innovation.
His appointment at GSU will take effect on May 1.
“I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Georgia State’s vision for its future,” Rosenstiel said.
“It is an honor to be at the table as GSU works to fulfill ambitious goals and initiatives under the institution’s strategic plan, and I look forward to leading the College of Arts & Sciences during this dynamic time in the life of the university.”
During Rosenstiel’s time at Portland State, he oversaw 24 academic units and an $85 million budget, championing interdisciplinary collaboration and reducing equity gaps in degree completion.
He also secured a historic $10 million gift to the humanities, the largest of its kind in Oregon, and oversaw the completion of the Vernier Science Center, a capital project focused on Indigenous perspectives.
Rosenstiel’s work emphasizes the importance of integrating the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences to create a global and interdisciplinary educational experience.
“Dr. Rosenstiel’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the college as we strive toward continued excellence and innovation under his leadership,” said Nicolle Parsons-Pollard, provost and executive vice president for Academic Affairs.
“His leadership will undoubtedly strengthen the college’s role as a cornerstone of Georgia State’s mission and its impact on society. We look forward to the energy, insight and expertise he will bring to our community.”
Rosenstiel earned his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northland College.
Before his tenure at Portland State, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences at the University of Colorado.
