The first annual Georgia Behind the Lens Awards will take place on Feb. 23, celebrating the contributions of below-the-line professionals in the film industry.

The awards ceremony is a joint production of Assembly Atlanta, NBC Universal, Georgia Entertainment, Discover Dunwoody, and Marriott International, according to a press release. The event will take place on Feb. 23 at 5 p.m. at the Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center in Dunwoody.

While “above-the-line” jobs on a film set include the director, actors, or other roles that have direct creative input on the project, below-the-line roles include the crew responsible for executing the production details – roles such as camera operators, set designers, and the like.

“Georgia’s role in the film and entertainment industries stands tall because of the people involved,” said Randy Davidson, founder of Georgia Entertainment, in the release. “These hardworking Georgians, many trained in the creative industries by our leading educational institutions, are one of the primary reasons productions return time and time again to the Peach State.”

The event will also benefit the film nonprofit RE:IMAGINE, which aims to help create workforce opportunities in the film and media industry for Gen Z creatives. The awards ceremony will include categories such as the Distinguished Production Associate of the Year, Marriott International’s Travel Partner of the Year, Location Manager of the Year, and more. The Visionary Award will be presented to Hilton Howell, the chairman of the board and CEO of Gray Television.
