Two workshops are scheduled in late March to make lanterns for the Sandy Springs annual Lantern Parade, which will be held on April 5, traveling along Morgan Falls Road to Overlook Park.

The family-friendly event invites community members of all ages to bring a lantern and join the parade, according to a Sandy Springs news release. A pre-parade block party with food trucks and music will kick off at 6 p.m. at Steel Canyon Golf Club, 460 Morgan Falls Road, Sandy Springs. The parade will follow at 8:15 p.m.

Community members may craft DIY lanterns with kits available throughout the city or attend expert-led lantern workshops. Lantern Parade artist Chantelle Rytter will host guided workshops on March 29 and 30 at the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center at 1 Galambos Way.

A special edition lantern kit will be available to honor the city’s upcoming 20th anniversary. The release said Rytter will guide participants in creating this exclusive design. Those who craft lanterns using the kit will march at the front of the parade with Sanderson, the flying pig lantern.

Workshops are expected to reach capacity, so registration is required.  Children who want to participate in the workshops must be accompanied by an adult. According to the city, this project is best for kids capable of using scissors and handling hot glue guns.

The parade will march along Morgan Falls Road, according to the news release. Alongside the 20th anniversary lantern design, new creations will make their debut, including the Fantastical Bird and Fantastical Botanicals lanterns. Spectators may line the sidewalks to witness this spectacle.

After the parade concludes near the Chattahoochee River, guests will be able to view hundreds of glowing lanterns on display, which will include five lanterns floating on the river in collaboration with the National Park Service’s Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area.
