A North Carolina man who was accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend in 2020 was found guilty on 22 counts and sentenced to life without parole, plus 145 years.

Fortune Jaquan Spencer of Lilesville, NC was accused of murdering his girlfriend, Sherika Monique Little, while she sat parked in her vehicle around 7:30 p.m. on June 6, 2020. Little’s vehicle was at the Hilton Perimeter Suites at 6120 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, according to a Sandy Springs Police news release.

Rough Draft Atlanta reported at the time that Little, 24, of Wadesboro, NC, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Sandy Springs Police reported at the time that Spencer and Little were in a relationship and the killing was believed to be a case of domestic violence.

After the shooting, Sandy Springs Police reported witnesses saw a suspect fleeing on foot. Spencer allegedly ran to 1100 Hammond Drive and shot an Atlanta Police Intelligence officer in an unsuccessful carjacking. The officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Spencer then found an elderly female at 1160 Hammond Drive and stole her car, according to the news release. The suspect quickly wrecked into several vehicles in the Parc at Perimeter Apartments property at 6210 Peachtree Dunwoody Road while trying to flee.

The suspect ran into the road and tried to stop and carjack three additional victims. A passing motorist struck Spencer, who was then taken into custody by Sandy Springs Police officers.

The news release said that Spencer was tried and convicted during the week of Feb.16 of:

  • Two counts of felony murder,
  • Murder,
  • Two counts of hijacking a motor vehicle (first-degree),
  • Four counts of hijacking a motor vehicle (second-degree),
  • Three counts of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony,
  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon,
  • Three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,
  • Two counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree, three counts of DUI,
  • Striking an unattended vehicle.
