
A Roswell man has been arrested and charged with vehicular homicide after his car struck and killed a Sandy Springs man who was walking along Roswell Road near Mystic Place on March 21.
A Sandy Springs Police Department spokesperson said Humberto Méndez Gómez, 45, of Sandy Springs, was walking along Roswell Road on Friday morning when a 2014 Lexus ES300 sedan that police said was driven by Robert Lamar Sanders of Roswell struck him.
Police officers arrested Sanders in Roswell with the help of the Sandy Springs Police criminal intelligence unit and Sandy Springs Police traffic investigators, the spokesperson said.
Witnesses called 911 to report the incident around 10:07 a.m.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office jail website said that charges made against Sanders by Sandy Springs include homicide by vehicle in 1st degree; hit and run resulting in serious injury or death; hit and run; DUI (drugs); reckless driving; failure to maintain lane; and improper/erratic lane change.
Sanders was released on bond from the Fulton County Jail on March 24, according to jail records.
An inmate search of Fulton County Jail records show Sanders was arrested by Roswell Police on March 12 on charges of DUI (alcohol) and failure to maintain lane or improper lane change. He was released the same day on bond.
