The annual Amplify Decatur Music Festival returns April 25-27, with a number of live performances and free events planned.
The three-day music festival kicks off with a performance by The Core at Avon Theater (formerly Avondale Town Cinema) on Friday on April 25.
Inspired by the legendary HORDE (Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere) Festivals of the 1990s, The Core will be playing songs from a variety of HORDE artists, such as Dave Matthews Band, Phish, The Allman Brothers Band and Lenny Kravitz, to name a few.
On the Saturday, there will be a number of free pop-up performances that will take place from 3-5 p.m. at various downtown venues, followed by a free outdoor concert at Decatur Square in the evening.
The free show is headlined by The Last Waltz Ensemble, a tribute band who performs the greatest hits of rock legends Bob Dylan and The Band — fun fact, the group is named after The Band’s famous farewell concert, The Last Waltz.
The festival will wrap up on Sunday, April 27, at Eddie’s Attic with The Bad Bitches of Country, a tribute act that will pay homage to female country icons, featuring songs from Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Beyoncé and more.
All of the proceeds from the festival will go towards Decatur Cooperative Ministry (nonprofit dedicated to helping families facing homelessness) and the Decatur Education Foundation (youth-assistance organization).
“In addition to supporting our beneficiaries, a primary goal this year is bringing the community access to as much music as possible, while incorporating Decatur’s unique fabric of families, businesses and the arts,” said Christine Mahin, director and co-board chair of Amplify.
