The Chattahoochee Nature Center (CNC), an environmental education nonprofit, announced that it has received a substantial donation to fund its new volunteer operations center.

The donation was made by former CNC board member Tony Parker and his wife, Eileen — both of which are longtime supporters, according to CNC.

Called the “Parker House,” the upcoming facility will serve as a training and educational space for the nature center’s numerous volunteers.

“Thanks to the Parkers’ generous support, a new volunteer operations center will be constructed to ensure that the thousands of CNC volunteers receive the necessary resources to stay safe and healthy while working on projects in the greenhouses and the Unity Garden,” said Natasha Rice, chief executive officer of Chattahoochee Nature Center.

During the Parker House’s groundbreaking, Tony Parker — a CNC member for more than 40 years — said that he and his wife were inspired to provide financial support to an organization that has meant so much to them.

“We saw this project as a great opportunity to give back to a place that has given us so much,” said Tony Parker. “We’re proud to be involved with this new operations center, which once completed, will provide CNC’s staff with additional office and storage space, as well as the much-needed break room for all the Unity Garden volunteers to utilize and enjoy for many years to come.”

The Parker House is the first major project CNC has launched under its “Growing Tomorrow’s Nature Enthusiast” capital campaign.

CNC says that the aim of the financial initiative is to invest in the organization’s “continued future as a leader in conservation, rehabilitation and education of wildlife within metro Atlanta and the Chattahoochee River.”
