What better way to celebrate and honor the men in your life than by participating in a Father’s Day morning event on Sunday, June 15? run4DAD is a family event with something for everyone – 5K race, 1-mile run/walk, kids4DAD tot trot and even a snooze4DAD option.
The annual run4DAD 5K run/walk benefits ProstAware, a 501(c)3 non-profit dedicated to bringing prostate cancer awareness and education to men and their loved ones. This family-fun race is presented by Wellstar and emceed by well-known Atlanta radio and television on-air personality Crash Clark, featured on The Morning X on 99X.
Event details
run4DAD begins at 8:00 a.m., rain or shine, just off Ga. 400 on Old Milton Parkway in Alpharetta. Start/finish is in Wills Park Pool Parking Lot, 1815 Old Milton Parkway. Registration fees are:
5K – $35;
$45 on Race Day;
Prostate Cancer Survivor – $25;
1 mile walk – $20; kids4DAD – $15; and
snooze4DAD – $40.
kids4DAD is a short ‘tot trot’ through the parking lot for kids 6 and under and those registered receive a cape. snooze4DAD registration allows participants to stay home and sleep in but still support the cause and receive a race shirt. Prostate Cancer awareness
“Other than skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men. In fact, one in eight men will develop prostate cancer in their lifetime and every 20 minutes a man loses his life to prostate cancer,” said Scott D. Miller, MD, MBA, founder of ProstAware and medical director of Wellstar Urology.
Dr. Miller points out, however, that the statistics can be changed. “When prostate cancer is detected and treated in the early stages, the 5-year survival rate is 99%. Awareness and early detection save lives,” he explains.
Who is at risk for Prostate Cancer?
Having a father or brother with prostate cancer more than doubles a man’s risk of developing this disease, according to the American Cancer Society, and the incidence of prostate cancer in Black men is 70% higher than in white men.
With his vibrant, entertaining personality, run4DAD emcee Crash Clark is invited to participate in many Atlanta community events. “But this one is different for me, because run4DAD is personal,” Clark said. “There’s a history of prostate cancer in my family. Some of the men in my family have it and I actually lost my grandfather to prostate cancer. So, I’m on a mission to spread the word. We all need to be talking to family and friends about the importance of screenings for early detection and survival,” he added.
ProstAware’s vision is to have every man – starting at age 40 – learn about the best approach for prostate cancer screening and survivorship based on their individual risks and health needs.
