David Ziskind announced on June 3 his intention to run for Dunwoody City Council Post 2 on Nov. 4.

“I appreciate the many conversations I’ve had across the community over the past few years, and after consulting with my family I’ve come to the conclusion that now is the time to make a difference in our city,” Ziskind said in his announcement.  “I am humbled by the outpouring of support and encouragement I’ve received from our community. “

Ziskind, according to his campaign website, has served on the Construction Board of Adjustments and Appeals since 2019 and graduated from Dunwoody Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy in 2012.

“As a proactive problem solver with deep experience in aligning diverse stakeholder interests, I have heard loud and clear from constituents throughout Dunwoody that they want smart and sensible infrastructure improvements without an undue financial burden,” Ziskind said.  “We need to earn our citizens’ trust by being responsible with our budget and thoughtful with prioritizing vital improvements to our city.”

He is running for the seat now held by Rob Price, who was elected to council in 2021. Price has not formally announced his intentions for the November election.

Ziskind was raised in Stone Mountain and later Sandy Springs. He attended Sandy Springs Middle School and North Springs High School before earning a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from Georgia Tech.

“My love of the city in the trees led me to Dunwoody, where I met my wife and we started our family,” Ziskind said on his campaign website. “Now living in Meadowlake [subdivision] with our three boys, our days are entrenched in Vanderlyn Elementary, Peachtree Middle, and lots of youth baseball.”

Ziskind listed as his priorities, if elected, parks, public safety, and public works, delivery of infrastructure improvements, and support of city staff while also demanding accountability.

Three seats are open in Dunwoody, Post 1 (District 1), currently held by Catherine Lautenbacher, Post 2 (District 2), and Post 3 (District 3), currently held by Tom Lambert.  One person, Zach Humphries, recently announced his intention to run for the Post 1 seat.

Qualifying takes place at Dunwoody City Hall, 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Road, in the city clerk’s office, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, and ending at 4:30 p.m. on Wed., August 20.
