Sandy Springs picked the $376,229 bid by Tri Scapes of Alpharetta to construct Burdett Park in the right-of-way at the corner of Johnson Ferry Road and Burdett Drive.

Public Works Director Marty Martin said during the Sandy Springs City Council’s June 3 meeting that the project includes removing invasive species and grass, grading, construction of drainage, a compacted crushed granite path with cobble edge, pedestrian lighting, installation of a drinking fountain, landscape improvements, and park furnishings. A city spokesperson said the park should be completed this fall.

Bids ranged from Tri Scapes’ low bid to $773,050. Martin said the engineer’s estimate was $333,700.

Ronda Smith, president of the Mountain Springs Neighborhood Association, said the neighborhood has sought these improvements for this very visible space for a long time.

The improvements will further enhance the aesthetics on Johnson Ferry Road that began with improvements at the Abernathy Arts Center, planting of hundreds of street trees since 2012 and installing pedestrian lights.

“It’ll be a great to complete the aesthetic. It will provide a great stopping point for runners, walkers, and dog walkers,” Smith said.
