The Sandy Springs Conservancy will host a Springway Celebration on Saturday, June 21 to recognize the opening of the first section of the Springway Trail.

The family-friendly, free event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. off Morgan Falls Road, past the dog park and near the boat ramp, according to a news release. A tent and balloons will mark the site.

The conservancy will offer icy treats and some activities and giveaways for the kids.

Volunteers from the Sandy Springs Conservancy will answer questions about the first section of the Springway Trail and share plans to complete the rest of the five-mile Morgan Falls Connector loop trail.

Visitors can walk the Springway Trail to the boardwalk around Orkin Lake. The 1.8-mile paved trail begins on Morgan Falls Road at the corner of the parking lot to Morgan Falls Overlook Park, continues down Morgan Falls Road past the dog park, and then turns uphill to the scenic boardwalk over Orkin Lake.

The Sandy Springs Conservancy partnered with the city to develop the first section of the trail and the entire Springway Trails plan. The city officially opened the first section in early May.
