Dunwoody announced yet another water main break on Harris Circle at the same location that has been plagued with incidents over the past months and years.

The city posted on social media on July 1 around 10 a.m. that the break, near the corner of Harris Circle and Chamblee Dunwoody Road, is currently being repaired.

“DeKalb Watershed Management crews are on the scene,” the announcement said. “Drivers in both directions can get around the work site using Harris Circle. Please prepare for delays and avoid the area if possible.”

The city announced that the issue had been resolved around 2 p.m. but how long the fix holds is anyone’s guess.

Residents say the area is a frequent site for water main breaks, and have complained that the incidents have caused issues with water pressure in homes.

An overnight water main break on June 5 forced the closure of several major roadways in Dunwoody. The break occurred again on June 7.

According to an announcement made by the city, the six-inch break on June 5 occurred on Chamblee Dunwoody Road at 5800 Harris Circle. The road was closed to through traffic from Roberts to Spalding Drive.

DeKalb County District 1 Commissioner Rob Patrick said after the June 5 break that he was aware of the plethora of incidents at the Harris Circle-Chamblee Dunwoody intersection, and was requesting that DeKalb County officials produce a list of priority projects for the county.

Rough Draft has reached out to Patrick to see if he received the list, and whether Harris Circle was one of the county’s top priorities.

The DeKalb County Commission announced in February a 10-year initiative to fix the county’s aging water infrastructure that would be financed by a 10 percent increase in water bills each year.

However, the rate increase, which was to take place on July 1, has been postponed so the county can finish producing public education materials with the Urban League of Greater Atlanta.
