A digital donation drive for back-to-school supplies is underway, thanks to supporters of Cross Keys High School in Brookhaven.
An extension of the Leadership Perimeter community impact project from XYZ, the drive will benefit the Student and Family Engagement Center (SAFE) at Cross Keys. The goal is to collect 300 clear backpacks – which are required for DeKalb County School District students – for distribution to the school’s 1,300 students at an open house event on Wednesday, July 30. Other items can be found on the Amazon wishlist.
The back-to-school drive is the next project of brainchild Tremaine Bagley, a 2025 member of the Leadership Perimeter program who designed and executed a digital food drive in spring.
Keeping with her mission to address food insecurity at the school, Bagley has obtained funding and resources for Cross Keys to build a community garden. The project will be funded through a grant from T2S C.A.R.E.S., a global mental health organization. The garden is scheduled to be completed in early fall.
At Cross Keys, 87 percent of students qualify for free or reduced lunch, and several of the students and faculty are reliant on the school’s food pantry to make ends meet.
“We’re not just providing food; we’re supporting well-deserving students who demonstrate the power of community,” Bagley told Rough Draft.
