In commemoration of its 30th anniversary, Atlanta improv theater Dad’s Garage announced the wide-range of programming that it will showcase throughout the upcoming year.
Kicking everything off is The Tight Acquaintances, a Dungeons and Dragons-inspired show in which improvisers set off on a magical — and hilarious — fantasy adventure. The show runs from Aug. 2 through Sept. 27.
Also taking place during summer 2025 is BlackGround (Aug. 1 – Sept. 5), a comedy show where a troupe of all African-American performers explores what Black characters were doing during classic film scenes, as well as Felt Street (Aug. 8 – Sept. 26), a dark parody of classic kid’s television shows featuring both human and puppet characters.
Rounding out 2025 is Understudied, a brand new musical that is shaped by audience suggestions; Murder, She Improvised, a murder mystery that features a new whodunnit case each week; Plays by Bots, where performers act out plays created by an AI bot; Improvised Shakespeare, a Shakespearean play that is formed via an audience suggestion; and Invasion: Christmas Carol, an off-the-wall interpretation of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic.
Starting off the new year is the 30th anniversary of the TheatreSports Tournament (January 2026), a three-week improv showdown where Atlanta’s best improvisers go head-to-head to see who is the best of the best.
Following the tournament, Dad’s Garage will be hosting Vavianna Vardot’s Famous Sex Party, an adult-only show that features burlesque, dirty songs and more; Puppy Prov, a hilarious and heartwarming show in which performers act out canine stories told by various dog owners and rescue organizations; as well as Scandal!, described as “America’s longest running improvised soap opera.”
Tickets for the upcoming improv shows can be found on the Dad’s Garage website.
