Dunwoody residents can now register for the City of Dunwoody’s 2025 Household Hazardous Waste Recycling Event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13.

According to a release by the city, the free event will be held in the parking lot at Dunwoody City Hall at 4800 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to Dunwoody residents only.

“This event empowers residents to take an active role in protecting the environment by safely disposing of hazardous materials,” said Dunwoody Community Development Director Richard McLeod. “Each year, our department and the Dunwoody Sustainability Committee make this a top priority.”

During last year’s household hazardous waste recycling event, 473 residents participated, recycling 16,500 pounds of latex paint, 3,567 pounds of pesticides, 1,144 pounds of motor oil, 462 fluorescent bulbs, and 304 fire extinguishers.

Items that will be accepted include the following: oil and latex paints, stains, paint thinner, automobile batteries, household batteries, motor oil, antifreeze, gasoline, diesel, household cleaners, pool chemicals, household chemicals, pesticides, flammables, and corrosives.

Items that will not be accepted include the following: agricultural waste, bio-hazardous/bio-medical waste, ammunition, explosives, radioactive materials, smoke detectors, cylinders of acetylene, oxygen, carbon dioxide, helium, and refrigerant gases.

Residents will need to bring proof of residency to the event, the release said. Disposal amounts are limited. Commercial quantities are not allowed at this event.
