The Brookhaven Police Department has arrested 31-year-old Jose Carlos Meza Ignacio, who police believe was responsible for a fatal shooting that occurred on around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 at a Buford Highway apartment complex.

In a press release, BPD detailed the investigation, which said Meza Ignacio was believed to be drinking with the victim inside an apartment when an
argument broke out regarding Meza Ignacio’s possession of a firearm. During the dispute, Meza Ignacio allegedly shot the victim, who died.

A manhunt was announced for Meza Ignacio, described as a Hispanic male, who was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, brown shorts, and a black hat. Identifying marks include a scar on his left eye and multiple tattoos, including a horse on his left forearm, Saint Jude on his back, and lettering on his neck.

Meza Ignacio was considered armed and dangerous, BPD said. Meza Ignacio has active warrants for murder, cruelty to children first degree, cruelty to children third degree, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, and criminal damage to property.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information related to the incident is urged to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
