‘Frenemies’ about covers it
Sept. 24 — It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on Dunwoody. I’m sitting at my desk looking at Oscar, my self-named work cat, who skulks to my back deck each day, snubs anything but the briefest of greetings, and sleeps most of the day on a comfy chair.
He (or she?) could be considered an emotional support pet, but only for those who have no emotions and don’t need any support. Since I haven’t even bothered to find out the cat’s gender, I’m down with this situationship.
🪽 This week’s newsletter revisits my favorite story (the overlap of the two areas I cover) with some angelic results, provides a heads-up about a very important author coming to Dunwoody, includes a story about a new element for a local home tour, and finally provides some good news for all of us who still like to turn pages. There’s also some late-breaking news at the bottom of this newsletter.
🐈 Check out this story about the benefits of spending mere minutes with animals for inspiration,
Cathy

Attention OG book readers: get ready for greatness
📖 A new independent bookstore is coming to Dunwoody with the goal of becoming a regular meeting place that fosters a love for reading and community.
Owner Abbi Diego told Rough Draft that Prelude Bookstore will be located in the Shops of Dunwoody next to Valor Coffee in a 1,900-square-foot space that formerly housed Yoga 6. It’s slated to open in late October.
Diego, a mother of four and the daughter of a librarian, said since Dunwoody lacked an independent bookstore, it made opening Prelude an easy decision.
“I feel so comfortable around books, and I just love the idea of making Prelude much more than a book store,” she said. “I’m hoping that people will pop in with their coffees and tell us about the books that they are reading.”

Flip it forward for $46,000, Alex
👼🏼 Two Dunwoody realtors who “flipped it forward” at a Tucker home have completed the project, enabling them to donate $46,000 to Atlanta Angels, a non-profit focused on supporting foster care children and the families who house them.
Amy and Jon Pedersen of the Purpose Driven Real Estate Group purchased the former home of Ray and Sydney Lund on New Year’s Eve of 2024, and upon finding out that the couple had fostered more than 40 children throughout their lives, decided renovate the house and donate the net proceeds of the sale to Atlanta Angels.
In order to maximize the donation, the Pedersens sought in-kind donations and donated work from local contractors.
“So many people stepped up, and none of this would have happened without these amazing community partners,” Amy Pedersen said. “Without their help, this flip would have cost $250,000 at least.”
🥰 Read more about the process and see a video of the former homeowner at the reveal.
