• The Sandy Springs City Council approved the $650,000 sale of a former grow house property.

Sandy Springs will be reimbursed for the $76,060 it cost to demolish a marijuana grow house on Kitty Hawk Drive and will get a share of the proceeds from the sale of the house.
The Sandy Springs City Council approved City Manager Eden Freeman’s request to to sell the property for $650,000 at 4804 Kitty Hawk Drive during its Oct. 7 meeting.
“In June of 2023, this property first came to our awareness as it was a major marijuana grow house that the Sandy Springs Police Department had identified,” Freeman said.

A raid by Sandy Springs Police detectives and the DEA resulted in the confiscation of 540 marijuana plants, 135 pounds of cultivated marijuana, an AR-15 rifle, Psilocybin mushrooms, $37,000 in U.S. currency, and other evidence related to the manufacture and sale of marijuana.
The property was declared to be a danger as the case worked through the court system. Freeman said a court order by Superior Court Judge Robert C.I. McBurney authorized the city to sell the property.
Freeman said the city will be reimbursed for the expenses it incurred with the property. After paying off the mortgage, along with a real estate commission fee, the remaining funds will be distributed by the court between the city and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office, which worked on the forfeiture of the property.
Freeman said the original sales price had to be reduced because it has several encumbrances on it. A Colonial Pipeline easement makes a large portion of the back of the property unbuildable.
The grow house was located in council member Andy Bauman’s district. Bauman said he joins his neighbors in being grateful for the demolition of the property.
