Fulton County Schools officials say it’s too early to know why the 2025 SAT score averages at North Springs High School dropped 54 points in a year when the district’s overall average score rose.

Chief Academic Officer Brannon Gaskins told the Fulton County Board of Education during its Oct. 7 work session that the district’s average SAT score for 2025 was 1,076. That was a 13-point gain compared to last year.

“With an average score of 1,076, Fulton County Schools stands 47 points above the state and 80 points above the national public-school average, reaffirming our place among Georgia’s academic leaders,” Gaskins said.

North Springs High School’s average SAT score dropped to 957, its lowest in the past six years.

Chief Communications Officer Brian Noyes told Rough Draft that it was too early for school leaders to have a complete picture since the scoring data was just released. He said they will analyze the data to develop a strategy going forward to increase the scores.

Gaskins’ report showed that North Springs’ 496 score in evidence-based reading and writing (EBRW) and 462 in math reflected balanced achievement. The report pointed to areas where targeted support could yield gains. The totals were slightly below the district average.

Riverwood International Charter School had a six-point increase in 2025 to 1,059. That was 30 points higher than the state average. But it fell short of its highest average of 1,077, which was achieved twice in the past six years.

District-wide participation rose to 5,135 students, the highest number since 2019. About 309 more students took the test than in 2024, and the highest total since 2019.

Noyes said some school districts choose to promote higher test scores and have fewer test takers. Fulton County Schools chose to encourage more kids to participate to increase their opportunities, even if they don’t plan to attend college.

Riverwood had nine more students who took the SAT in 2024, rising to 213 participants.

North Springs had a slight dip to 191 participants, down five students from 2024.
