If you’ve been grooving to Taylor Swift’s new hit single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” The Atlanta Shakespeare Company is offering an opportunity to see where the literary reference originated – Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”
Running Nov. 8-30 at Shakespeare Tavern, the classic tale recounts a murdered king who drives his son, Prince Hamlet, to seek vengeance, setting in motion a spiral of deception, madness, and death that seals the fate of Denmark’s royal family.
Directed by Andrew Houchins and Kati Grace Kirby, the cast includes Mary Ruth Ralston in the titular role, Gabi Anderson as Ophelia, Kelly Criss as Queen Gertrude and O’Neil Delapenha taking on the dual roles of King Claudius and the Ghost of King Hamlet.
Performances will be held Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. (excluding Thanksgiving, which will not feature any shows that day).
In advance to the show’s opening night, The Shakespeare Tavern Playhouse will host preview performances of “Hamlet” on Nov. 6 and 7. Additionally, the venue will also offer a free post-show Q&A with the play’s cast and creative team for one night only on Nov. 16.
Doors to the Tavern open an hour and fifteen minutes before curtain for dinner and drinks, featuring a British pub-style menu by Bardic Inspiration Catering along with a selection of beers, wines, sodas and other beverages.
Tickets range from $25 to $49 depending on seating and performance date. Special discounts are also available for students, educators, seniors, military members and groups.
Seating is first-come, first-served within each section (main floor, box seats and balcony). Tickets are currently available online at www.shakespearetavern.com or through the box office at 404-874-5299 (ext. 0) or boxoffice@shakespearetavern.com.
