The Brookhaven Police traffic safety unit has arrested Omar Ali, 54, of Mableton, GA in connection with a fatal pedestrian accident on Oct. 21 at Clairmont Road and Dresden Drive.
According to a release from the city, Chamblee Police notified Brookhaven Police about the pedestrian accident shortly after noon. Officers arrived on the scene and found a yet-to-be identified 20-year-old female victim dead as a result of the accident.
Using nearby traffic cameras, investigators were able to determine the victim was lawfully entering the crosswalk when she was struck by Ali’s dump truck as he was turning right onto Clairmont Road from Dresden Drive, the release said.
After hitting the victim, Ali left the scene before returning about 20 minutes later. Investigators arrested and charged Ali with vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-run.
Ali, as of Oct. 22, remains in DeKalb County Jail, and it appears no bond has been set.
