Both teams moved on to this year’s CFP Semifinal round after winning their quarterfinal games. The Ducks are set to make their second CFP Semifinal after a 23–0 win over No. 4 Texas Tech in the Orange Bowl, while the Hoosiers secured the program’s first CFP Semifinal after defeating No. 9 Alabama 38-3 in the Rose Bowl Game.
Indiana will make its third trip to the Peach Bowl and Oregon is set to make its first-ever appearance in the game. The Hoosiers fell 22-27 to Tennessee in 1988 and 23-27 to Auburn in 1990.
This year’s matchup will be the first game between two teams from the same conference in the Bowl’s 58-year history.
Dr. Kyle Townsend with the Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University said the Peach Bowl is also expected to be and economic win for the City of Atlanta.
“Economic impacts from this year’s Peach Bowl will likely exceed $50 million in the city, exceeding previous years,” Townsend said. “Primary drivers for this are this growth are the position of the game in the College Football Playoff, the excitement around the participating teams, and the reputation Atlanta has earned as a great destination for sporting events. Our hospitality sector is poised and ready to play host! These types of events, being regularly scheduled in Atlanta, continue to show that the city is not only capable of hosting the biggest events, but also excelling, and we have a great opportunity to show our southern hospitality!”
