The Atlanta Beltline broke ground for the city’s first Bike Park on Thursday at Shirley C. Franklin Park on the Westside.  

The Bike Park is designed to introduce people to road and mountain biking and teach cycling skills, according to a press release.

By Putting the park at Franklin Park, it brings the sport of cycling to people in the historically underserved Grove Park, Westview, and Bankhead neighborhoods and is open to everyone in the region.

Phase 1 construction, made possible by an $8 million donation from The Chestnut Family Foundation, will create a world-class asphalt pump track facility, a bicycle playground and a skills course designed to give riders of all ages and abilities a place to advance their skill levels.

The 304-day construction timeline targets a fall 2026 completion for the first phase, according to the press release.
