🙅🏽 “Bad Dates” at Stage Door Theater opens this Saturday, Feb. 7. Plot line: An idiosyncratic journey of self-discovery “involving the Romanian mob, a Buddhist rainstorm, a teenage daughter, shoes, and a few very bad dates.” I’ll be there for opening night, and you should too. Buy tickets here.
🚲 The City of Dunwoody wants feedback on a proposed solution to improve pedestrian and bicycle mobility within Dunwoody and Peachtree Corners by adding a shared-use path along Winters Chapel Road from Peeler Road to Charmant Place. Community members are encouraged to learn more and share their thoughts at a Public Information Open House on Thursday, Feb. 12, from 5–7 p.m. at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church.

Community opens checkbook for fire victims
🔥 In the aftermath of an apartment fire that destroyed a building at the Dunwoody Village Apartments on Jan. 31, the community is stepping up with donations of money, clothing, and furniture to help those who lost everything in the blaze.
Around 5 p.m., a two-alarm fire was reported at the apartments, located on North Peachtree Road across from First Baptist Church Atlanta. While there were no injuries reported, eight families living in the unit lost everything in the blaze. High winds that night contributed to the fast spread of the fire, officials said.

The long and winding road
⛜ Some residents in a neighborhood off Dunwoody Club Drive will have to take the scenic route home for about 60 days.
As part of DeKalb County’s Bend Creek Sewer Improvement Project, crews plan to close Dunwoody Club Drive between Braddock Court and Bend Creek Road from Feb. 5 through March 27, according to an announcement from the City of Dunwoody.
“During this closure, detour signs will be in place to direct traffic around the closed portion of the road,” the announcement said. “The road closure will take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.”
📅 The project was scheduled to start last September and last for a year. Calls have been made about whether there’s a new timeline. Here’s what we know.

Turn up that collar
🌈 This year’s 40th Annual Spruill Center for the Arts will celebrate the bad fashion choices of the 1980s while raising funds for the arts at its March 28 Artistic Affair.
Last year, more than 350 guests came together to raise $112,000 – including $17,500 for scholarships, according to a release from Spruill Center.
“This year’s Artistic Affair is entirely new, with fresh 80s-inspired art and interactive experiences woven throughout the evening,” the release said. “Bid on totally tubular items in our live and silent auctions featuring artwork from students, instructors, and local artists.”

‘Pitcher’ this
⚾️ Dunwoody’s own Kevin Smith, who pitched at Dunwoody High School, the University of Georgia, and for the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets, is offering pitching lessons for anyone interested in going to The Show (or not).
A few years ago, my daughter was forced to pitch for her D-3 college softball team after every other pitcher was injured. Through no fault of her own, her ERA was around 31.00. Also, the catcher had a shoulder injury, so she had to roll the ball back to the mound after each pitch; ergo, steals per game hovered around 30 as well. On the upside, parents brought really good snacks.
