City of Tucker officials recently joined Metal Arts Guild of Georgia (MAGG) celebrate its relocation to Tucker and expanded amenities for avid metal artisans.
The nonprofit organization, founded more than 25 years ago, supports metal smiths and metal artists through education, community, and shared resources. The volunteer-run organization relocated to Tucker, at its Railroad Avenue spot, from Doraville, in the fall.
Mayor Anne Lerner, Mayor Pro Tem Virginia Rece, District 2 Councilwoman Cara Schroeder, District 3 Councilwoman Amy Trocchi, John McHenry, Tucker’s city manager, and Erica Rocker, Tucker’s economic development director, were on hand for the ribbon-cutting festivities on Feb. 5.

“From this new home, we look forward to building strong alliances with local small businesses, offering classes for teens and adults, and hosting monthly workshops led by visiting artists,” said Susan Wachler, president of MAGG. “Above all, this is a place to come together — to learn, create, and share in community through the arts.”

MAGG provides artisans of all skill levels to work with metal and create jewelry through online and in-person classes. From forging to soldering to stone setting, the metalworkers have an array of options, including hosting their own jewelry show and becoming a member, which provides discounts on classes and events.
A hub for makers
The new facility offers more than 3,800 square feet of workshop and class space, which includes two fully equipped studio spaces. The increased studio space will allow MAGG to offer longer studio hours and more weekly classes and workshops.

The expanded space is a key benefit of the Tucker relocation, but Wachler said it’s second to the opportunity to strengthen MAGG’s “role as a hub for connection and creativity.”
The grand opening for the creative hub comes within days of multiple arts venues opening in Tucker, including Brio Theater and Londzell Performing Arts Theatre. Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium is expected to open in late February.
“We are grateful to be part of the City of Tucker and welcome the financial support of those who are able,” Wachler said. “Our studios are a place to meet others, share knowledge, and grow together as makers.”
Metal Arts Guild of Georgia is located at 4204 Railroad Ave. The hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
