The Brookhaven Urban Redevelopment Agency on Feb. 24 approved a $264,949 transfer of SPLOST II funds to finish out its city centre construction.
The panel approved the expenditure without discussion. There was no public comment from attendees.

The punch list, according to a memo explaining the expenditures, includes $152,994 for “additional mobilization related to dome glass removal,” $75,000 for office furniture, $75,000 for title insurance, $44,998 for glass for its entry awning, $40,000 for adjustments to the smoke suppression system, and $5,000 for certification signs.
The listed expenditures also include a decrease of $128,043 for work that has already been completed.
On June 23, 2025, the city released a statement that the blue, green, red, and yellow glass tiles that were partially installed on the building’s dome would be removed before the highly anticipated opening of the $81 million city centre.
“The mosaic glass planned for the dome was intended to reflect muted tones of the city’s signature colors – blues, greens, and complementary hues-consistent with the design vision supported by the community, mayor, and council. However, the glass recently installed appears significantly brighter than expected,” the statement said.
The Brookhaven Arts and Culture Commission has been tasked with generating ideas for repurposing the tiles, which cost approximately $980,000.
Rough Draft contacted Burke Brennon, the city’s communications director, regarding specifics about the $152,000 expenditure and whether a plan has been finalized for the repurposing of the tiles, which he said is still being explored.
“The mobilization refers to the directive to uninstall the glass while crews were installing it,” Brennon said. “We still have it in storage.”
