The trifecta is still operating
March 13 — It’s Cathy, Katie, and Stephanie with our weekly newsletter. What’s up with this weather, anyway? For anyone who wants to know what menopause is like, the last 48 hours pretty much sum it up.
Before we get to this week’s wrap-up, here are some newsy tidbits.
🫢 We incorrectly reported the date for ARTucker, which is being held at the new Tucker Town Green. It’s April 25. We have corrected the story and look forward to seeing everyone there.
🥧 The Tucker Recreation Center will celebrate the world’s most famous infinite number with a 3.14k run that starts at 3:14 p.m. on March 14. After finishing, participants can celebrate with pizza and pie, available while supplies last.
⫷ Trip over to the Tucker Town Green on March 15 from noon to 2 p.m. for an afternoon of great tunes, fresh air, and community vibes. Grab takeout from one of Main Street’s local restaurants, bring a blanket or a lawn chair, and find a spot on the grass to enjoy the sounds of Tripp’n, a teenage rock band.
Have a great weekend,
The ladies

Loitering agreement penned
👩🏼🤝👨🏾 The Tucker City Council approved an ordinance on March 9, amending the city’s loitering code, and marking the beginning of an expanded partnership with DeKalb County Police Department.
The ordinance, approved unanimously during the meeting, amends the city’s loitering code to mirror the changes made to DeKalb County’s code in March 2025. The ordinance adds establishments that sell alcohol, car service stations, convenience stores, and extended-stay motels to the list of spaces where loitering is unlawful.
With the change, Tucker’s leaders discussed implementing the new Loitering Enforcement Authorization Program with DKPD. By signing onto the program, businesses enable DKPD to enforce loitering laws on their properties by providing written authorization and placing public signage. Whether or not it will help curtail a rash of downtown smash-and-grab burglaries remains to be seen.

This hits close to home
😤 At their March 9 meeting, DeKalb County School District administrators reviewed data gathered on the first phase of the sweeping Student Assignment Project, which proposes closing 27 schools and expanding or repurposing others.
As expected, the results showed overall dissatisfaction with the proposed plan, the decision-making process, and a lack of quantifiable data about cost savings that will result from the upheaval.
The school system currently has about 90,000 students, a decline of about 20,000 since its peak enrollment. Birth rates, affordable housing, and school choice – such as private and homeschooling – have had an impact on enrollment.
🎓 One of the schools on the closure list is Brockett Elementary. Read more about the responses and next steps here.

🦚 On March 7, people gathered in downtown Tucker to celebrate the opening of Mama Debbie’s Art Emporium. The space, which opened on February 16, includes a shop floor with local art vendors, a gallery, and studio space for working artists.
Around 100 attendees celebrated with karaoke, barbecue from Ford’s BBQ, a peacock-themed exhibition, and tarot readings.
