Fayette County will host its first Pride celebration on Saturday, Aug. 1, from noon to 5 p.m., with a market, parade, entertainment, and family-friendly activities in downtown Fayetteville, GA.
Organized by the volunteer-led Fayette Pride board, festivities begin at noon with the Pride Market surrounding the courthouse square. Guest speakers at the kick-off will include Mayor Ed Johnson and Atlanta Director of LGBTQ+ Affairs Dewayne Queen.
The market will feature vendors, food trucks, live entertainment, and community organizations. A Kids Corner will offer face painting, arts and crafts, bubbles, and sidewalk chalk art.
The 1.4-mile Pride Parade will step off at 1 p.m. from the Fayette County Justice Center and travel through downtown Fayetteville.
The parade will be led by Grand Marshal TAYLOR ALXNDR, drag performer and co-founder of Southern Fried Queer Pride, followed by floats and marchers from churches, civic groups, nonprofits, musicians, and local organizations. Fayetteville City Council member Joe Clark, the county’s first openly gay elected official, is also scheduled to participate.
Entertainment throughout the afternoon will include performances by Southern Arc Dance, the Atlanta Women’s Chorus, vocalist Chris Pierce and TAYLOR ALXNDR, along with runway and dance contests on the main stage.
The celebration will continue into the evening with official after-parties at six downtown establishments: Awkward Brewing, Revival Wine Bar, Gremlin Growlers, Line Creek Brewing, Camp Brewing Company and The Hummingbird Room, each offering entertainment along with food and drink specials.
