In partnership with nonprofit Catalyst Sports, Sandy Springs is offering adaptive kayaking at Morgan Falls Overlook Park, designed to provide individuals with physical disabilities the opportunity to experience adventure on the water.
The inclusive program ensures that each paddler has a supportive environment to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, with a focus on safety, accessibility, and individualized support.

“Our goal is to remove barriers and create opportunities for everyone to experience the freedom of being on the water,” Recreation and Parks Program Coordinator Jane Jarrett said. “Through our partnership with Catalyst Sports, we are able to provide expert instruction, adaptive equipment, and a welcoming community for paddlers of all abilities.”
Volunteer training begins in April, with programs launching in June.
Adaptive kayaking details
Catalyst Sport instructors are skilled in modifying kayaks with specialized equipment to accommodate a wide range of physical needs. The program is led by instructors trained in adaptive paddling through the American Canoe Association.
The park venue features an accessible dock with a ramp for easy water access, a transfer seat to assist participants into kayaks, and a launch system designed to provide a smooth and safe entry into the river
The program also welcomes community members to serve as volunteers.
Responsibilities include transporting kayaks and equipment, assisting participants with transfers, making kayak adaptations, and serving as on-water support paddlers.
The Recreation and Parks Department covers all volunteer responsibilities in an online training program. Prior kayaking experience or personal equipment is not required, only a willingness to learn, support others, and actively participate.
