The City of Brookhaven had a rough weekend March 21-22 when a multi-vehicle fire led to the partial collapse of a parking garage on Clairmont Road, a shooting occurred outside Kroger on Peachtree Road, and a double shooting took place at an apartment complex near Buford Highway.
Brookhaven Police Chief Brandon Gurley said Brookhaven officers responded quickly and effectively to this weekend’s incidents.
According to WSB, Brookhaven officers were already in the area on March 22, around 11:20 p.m., when shots were fired at Park Towne North Apartments on Cliff Valley Way near Buford Highway. Two male victims died from their injuries. One victim was in the driver’s seat of a car with the door open, and a second victim was found near an apartment building.
BPD has not released a description of the suspects involved.
“While DeKalb Fire Rescue is leading the fire and garage collapse investigation, our detectives are actively pursuing leads in both shooting cases and leveraging our technology and partnerships to move these cases forward. Our focus remains on holding those responsible accountable and ensuring Brookhaven remains safe,” Gurley said.
The victim from the Kroger incident remains hospitalized in critical condition.
“There have been no arrests made in connection with either case at this time. Both investigations remain active and ongoing,” according to Lt. Carlos Nino.
BPD has reported that year-over-year statistics show that crime within the city is down significantly, with homicides down 50 percent, rape cases reduced by 29%, robbery lessened by 30%, and reported aggravated assaults down almost 12%.
The City of Brookhaven has invested in cameras, drones, and license plate readers to aid in crime detection.
