Two years after becoming Out on Film’s first-ever executive director, Justice Obiaya is stepping down.
Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ film festival announced that Obiaya would be leaving the position in a press release. According to the release, Obiaya told the Out on Film board about his decision on March 2, and his tenure officially ended March 20.

Obiaya’s time as executive director included the creation and expansion of numerous Out on Film initiatives, such as the organization’s annual Kickstarter campaign, the Reel Resistance Fellowship, and the Queer Film Summit.
“Justice’s impact on Out On Film cannot be overstated,” said Board Member Mark S. King in the release. “His vision and dedication helped transform the organization, but what stands out most is his commitment to building community—particularly through his work uplifting BIPOC, lesbian, and trans voices. On behalf of the Board, we are deeply grateful for his years of service and for the lasting contributions he has made to Out On Film and the LGBTQ+ community.”
Out on Film plans to launch a nationwide search for its next executive director. A job announcement is expected to be posted in the coming weeks.
Obiaya did not respond to a request for comment.
