Student brings gun to North Springs High School

🚨 North Springs High School avoided a scare this week after a student brought a gun to campus. North Springs High School Principal Scott Hanson said police immediately responded and located the weapon without incident.

In an email to parents just after 3 p.m. on March 31, Hanson said the students involved in bringing the weapon to campus will be disciplined and may face criminal charges.

Before the seizure of the weapon, Hanson said several individuals alerted school administration that a student might have a gun on campus. School officials have not said where the firearm was located or how many students were involved.

Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods outlines new plan process

🏑 The Sandy Springs Council of Neighborhoods introduced attendees of its recent annual meeting to the significance of the 2027 Comprehensive Plan process, one of the most direct forms of civic participation available to residents. The process creates the city’s long-range visions, aligning with changing demographic or economic conditions.

Georgia cities are required by state law to update their land-use plans every five years to remain eligible for state and federal grants. While the process does not change zoning, it does allow cities to prioritize what they want future development to look like.

Council of Neighborhoods President Rhonda Smith (pictured) said she was a new member of the citywide advocacy group during the last rewrite in 2017. “I found out a lot about what the city is about and what our residents want,” Smith said. β€œIt was very enlightening, and I think we adopted a great plan.”
