The 37th Annual DeKalb County Senior Olympic Games will be held May 4-15 for residents ages 50 and older, with a kickoff ceremony set for 10 a.m. Monday, May 4, at Exchange Intergenerational Recreation Center, 2771 Columbia Drive in Decatur.
The Olympic-style sports festival will feature free-throw basketball, bowling, track and field, billiards, swimming, table tennis, line dancing, water volleyball, and other events at venues throughout the county, according to a press release from the county.
Participants may compete as a team or enter individual events. Gold, silver, and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each event.
The games are open to all DeKalb County residents, as well as residents from surrounding counties. The event is part of National Older Americans Month, observed each May.
Registration is open now. Applications must be submitted by April 30 and are available online or at local recreation centers. Seniors who need transportation assistance should contact MARTA Mobility at 404-848-5389.
