Runoff winners for three Georgia legislative seats were decided during the April 7 special election.

Republican Lanny Thomas defeated Democrat Jack Zibluk for Senate District 53, which spans Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade and Walker counties and part of Floyd County.  Thomas, a former mayor of Trion, clinched the runoff with nearly 69% of the vote.

In House District 94, which includes portions of Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, Democrat Venola Mason bested fellow Democrat Kelly Kautz in the runoff. Mason, a DeKalb education consultant, earned 68% of the vote while Kautz, the former mayor of Snellville, received 31%.

And in House District 130, Democrat Sheila Clark Nelson won by a large margin over Republican challenger Thomas D. McAdams. Nelson, a former state representative, won by more than 70% to defeat McAdams, a local minister in the Richmond County-based district.
