1. Deborah Dancy’s new exhibition ‘Pivot’ opens at Marcia Wood Gallery

VIA SKETCHBOOK, A VISUAL ARTS NEWSLETTER | SUBSCRIBE

🎨 Deborah Dancy has taught, exhibited, and built a body of abstract painting work spanning decades. And yet, almost 50 years into her career, she decided to put down her brushes.

That choice centers “Pivot,” Dancy’s new solo exhibition opening at Buckhead’s Marcia Wood Gallery tomorrow.

“Pivot” extends experimentation that Dancy first began on paper. The series scales the method, and the results carry what the gallery describes as “luminous fields that shift between depth and atmosphere.”

2. Atlanta Hawks host girls basketball clinic with Google

🤝 The Atlanta Hawks, who lost to Cleveland 122-116 last night, partnered with Google for the first Lady Ballers clinic of the year in March, providing girls aged eight to 15 with on-court practice and hands-on STEM-based activities.

To celebrate Women’s History Month, the organization wanted to create a special clinic to spotlight the importance of women’s sports. Forty young female athletes of all skill levels participated in the clinic hosted at Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation & Aquatic Center.

During the Saturday afternoon clinic, athletes ran drills focusing on shooting mechanics, rebounding, ball handling, footwork, defensive positioning, and passing.

3. Why Airbnb guests are using this Atlanta startup to book personal chefs

👩🍳 Airbnb has long sold travelers on the fantasy of a home away from home. But, “home” requires grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning.

Travelers are looking for options that are “meaningful, comfortable, and effortless” when they are on the road for work or for vacation, says the team behind Atlanta-based startup,

Livin. Their solution? Give travelers their own personal chef. Livin announced last month that it is now partnering with Airbnb, making Livin’s personal chefs available directly through the travel giant’s website. Airbnb travelers now have the option to get healthy, personalized meals prepared directly at their rental space, saving them time and giving them an alternative to eating out for every meal.
