Atlanta Police officers arrested one of the department’s 10 most wanted fugitives on April 24.

Atlanta Police Zone 3 officers responded just before 3 a.m. to a larceny report on Milton Avenue in southeast Atlanta. An off-duty officer requested assistance after observing suspects in a white sedan breaking into vehicles at the location.

Responding officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. The suspects subsequently lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole, with the driver being ejected during the collision. Car and body camera footage show the fleeing vehicle strike the utility pole and, moments later, an explosion occurs. Officers were able to extract a passenger from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as Vincent Steele, 19, who was on the Atlanta Police Top 10 Most Wanted fugitive list for his connection to a Sept. 15, 2024, homicide at 1044 Ira St. SW.

Steele had multiple warrants for his arrest, including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Steele was taken to the hospital in serious condtion, while the passenger later died from the injuries suffered in the collision

The Georgia State Patrol will lead an investigation into the fatal traffic accident.
