The Atlanta City Council has announced a series of public budget briefings throughout May as it works toward adopting the city’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget, with final approval expected Monday, June 1.

Briefings will be held in the Marvin S. Arrington Sr. Council Chamber at Atlanta City Hall, 55 Trinity Ave SW, and will be simulcast live on the ATL26 YouTube channel and Facebook page. Closed captioning will be available on Facebook.

The schedule spans six weeks and covers every major city department:

Tuesday, May 5: Expect an overview of the city’s fiscal condition, budget development process, debt service, capital funds and investments. That day, representatives from four municipal unions and the International Association of Fire Fighters are scheduled to present.

Wednesday, May 6: Public safety departments take center stage with briefings from the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, the Atlanta Police Department and the Department of Corrections. The Atlanta Citizens Review Board is also meeting.

Thursday, May 7: Infrastructure and city services are the focus. Presentations are set for Watershed Management, Parks and Recreation, Enterprise Asset Management and Customer Service.

Thursday, May 14: Municipal Court, the Office of the Public Defender, the Office of the Inspector General and the City Auditor’s Office will present.

Tuesday, May 19: Transportation and planning departments are meeting.

Wednesday, May 20: Expect briefings from the Department of Public Works, Invest Atlanta and the Department of Aviation. At 6 p.m., a public hearing on the proposed tax millage rate and an interactive community budget public hearing are scheduled.

Thursday, May 21: The day includes presentations from the departments of Procurement and Finance, the City Council and the Executive Office.

Wednesday, May 27: Two additional public hearings on the tax millage rate are set for 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Monday, June 1: The Budget Commission is set to approve FY27, followed by a full Atlanta City Council vote to adopt the budget, revenue and fee legislation, the personnel ordinance and related human resources measures.

Wednesday, June 10: Today is the deadline for Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens to approve or veto the adopted ordinances, including the property tax rate, the budget ordinance, the personnel ordinance and the millage rate adoption.
