Atlanta-based Cumulus Media has announced the pending sale of its 97.9 FM signal to Joy FM, a Christian pop station owned by Florida-based Radio Training Network.
97.9 FM is currently home to the classic OG hip-hop station. While the deal awaits approval from the Federal Communications Commission, Cumulus said it will make a series of frequency and HD channel realignments, including one for classic alternative station 99X.
The changes include:
- OG, ATL’s Classic Hip Hop, will move from 97.9 FM to 98.9 FM. OG will also shift from WWWQ-FM/HD3 to WWWQ-FM/HD2.
- 99X (WNNX-FM) will continue to air on 100.5 FM and will discontinue its simulcast on 98.9 FM and WWWQ-FM/HD2.
- Until the sale of the 97.9 FM translator is finalized, Cumulus Atlanta will temporarily simulcast OG on both 97.9 FM and 98.9 FM.
“The pending sale of the 97.9 FM translator, together with these frequency realignments, reflects our disciplined approach to optimizing our Atlanta assets,” Justin Schaflander, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Atlanta, said in a press release. “These moves strengthen signal efficiency and position our brands for continued growth.”
Listeners can stream 99X at 99xatl.com or OG at og979.com.
